In preparation for local art-making workshops, I have been creating and testing out various new designs in art mosaics. I tend to start with a sketch, then use clear plastic to trace it then cut the plastic into a stencil of the design. From here I transfer the design to small canvases for cutouts. These cut-outs are glued to a bottom canvas re-assembled into a design form. Time for drying is given.
For some of these, I am gluing the pieces and painting afterwards. For some, I am painting colours and cutting shapes from it afterwards. When the pieces are glued in place, and the canvases are painted in their general colours, special embellishments of gold paint or white glitter glue is used at the end to finish off the designs.
Here are some photos of Canvas Mosaics in the making. For 'mosaic egg' designs, I have created cardboard shapes for outlining the egg, to create a standard size and shape for the new series. The finished 'egg art' is on 10"x10" canvases. I am working through multiple egg decorating designs, to have a variety of designs to choose from.
The workshop scheduled for March 21 on "Canvas Mosaic Eggs", is right on time for spring and ahead of Easter, so people have time to make more egg designs in follow-up of the workshop.
