"Ride It Out"

April 24, 2021

Acrylic painting on canvas, matted and framed. 9"x12".

"So many thoughts run through my head looking at this one... order & chaos, a sturdy isolated home caught between waves.. how it feels during covid threats, against the wind no matter which direction you turn, ... keeping your nose up above water, the question on rising up out of the chaos or being pulled down by it, restricting the sails from wind influence-not being driven into the sinkhole any faster, home(ship) is in the eye of the storm where things are most quiet, staying home is safer but it can still sink you, structured approaches against ever changing challenges... still there is beauty in the chaos and beauty in the structure.. a different kind of beauty in each. Order doesn't sail into the chaos; it maneuvers within it, against it, despite it, along side it towards where order wants to go.. set some goals. Hold strong and don't be pulled down. Yup.. many thoughts..."  -Sharon Bourque, Artist

"I love how the swirl goes into a wave but also looks like a hurricane. The darker blues in the upper corner appeal to me. This piece transitioned during sketching.. between two waves, into something controlled and stylized, then morphed into the all out chaos force... then forced focus on detailing the ship that needed to rise up out of it.

...It's almost like we have to stop everything to fight chaos...be still.. pull back the sails.. re-inforce our home bass... the eye of the storm.....but we still feel the tension of the storm."   -Sharon Bourque, Artist

"Navigating the Blues"

May 8, 2021

Acrylic painting on canvas, matted and framed. 9"x12".

 My thoughts on this one:

"Feeling blue? Is the shadow bird of depression looming over your head? Keep moving forward. Navigate your life, through every wave. "

"Alma 3 Boats":  Lobster boats & scallop draggers

Dec 28, 2020

This painting was one of the larger canvases painted in 2020.  The vessels painted are a mix of lobster fishing boats and an "A" frame scallop dragger.  The image painted is modeled from a photograph taken in 2019, by Sharon Bourque, at the Alma wharf, along the Bay of Fundy, in New Brunswick.

Official logos on the vessels are replaced with generic designs.  This image was taken at high tide on a nice sunny day, allowing for blue reflections in the water. (Alma water is often muddy brown due to the active tides coming in and out though out each day, from the Bay of Fundy.)
